Microsoft Video Ads Are Now Broadly Available

Following a pilot phase that lasted for more than one year, video advertisements created by Microsoft Advertising are now broadly accessible.

Video advertisements on Microsoft Audience Network are now widely available to complement existing search and image advertisement campaigns.

Microsoft piloted video ads in August 2021 in a few countries.

A year later, videos are now available for all Microsoft advertisers across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand.

Video advertisements are distributed through the Microsoft Advertising Network in the countries listed above.

Microsoft video advertisements are targeted using intent information from Bing search and Microsoft Edge Browser, Microsoft Edge Browser, LinkedIn, and web activities.

In a test, Microsoft says adding video to search campaigns has increased conversions by 50 percent compared when running a drive alone.

Microsoft Video Advertising Specifications

Microsoft video ads range between six seconds and two minutes. However, Microsoft recommends that videos with less than 30 seconds will generate the most interest.

The aspect ratio for video may be as comprehensive as 16:9 (widescreen) to 9:16 (vertical).

Microsoft provides the following bid options for video ads:

  • Optimize for views Bid for 1000 impressions that can be viewed. A view is counted as an impression when the viewer watches for two minutes in a continuous loop.
  • Optimize for viewing You can bid for a single video view. Views are counted when someone watches a minimum of 15 minutes of the video or clicks the advertisement.
  • Optimize your website for clicks Bid for clicks for the movie. The count of clicks is calculated when the viewer is on your site.

Create a Microsoft video advertisement by following these steps:

  • From the menu that collapses to the left, choose Campaigns.
  • Choose the option to create a campaign.
  • Select one of the video-based objectives.
  • Enter the campaign’s name and the Daily budget, select Save, and proceed to step.
  • Enter the Ad group name and select the intended audience you want to target.
  • Choose Save and proceed to the next section.
  • Include your video.
  • Choose Save and then move on to the next section.
  • Select your budget and bid settings.
  • Choose to Save.

Once you have uploaded the video, Microsoft Advertising will automatically create multiple videos in every aspect ratio (16:9, 5:4, 1:1, 4:5, 9:16, and 1:1). Alternately, you can upload your video in any available aspect ratio.
