Amazon Alexa SEO Tools Is Closing

Amazon’s robust suite of SEO tools and online marketing tools will cease to exist in 2022. This is devastating news for the search marketing community

Alexa.com announced the retirement of its marketing services after 25-years. Alexa.com was established in 1996. Amazon later purchased it in 1999. Alexa initially offered rankings based upon traffic via a toolbar, but it eventually expanded to include a full range of marketing products and site auditing or backlink checking. Alexa Rank

Alexa.com has a wide range of search marketing tools. It is best known for its Alexa rank.

Alexa Rank can be used to measure site popularity.

In the early 2000’s, the data was collected by an Alexa Toolbar that users downloaded and surfed. The toolbars gathered web traffic information fed into Alexa Rank’s popularity metric.

Web publishers can also install a script to report traffic on their sites, which can increase their Alexa Rank scores.

The Alexa Rank scores were generally viewed as suspicious because some people claimed that installing a toolbar and visiting your sites could significantly increase the Alexa Rank score.

Another criticism of AlexaRank was that the data was not relevant for English-speaking countries. This was due to the rumor of Alexa Rank heavily weighting users from Korea over users from English-speaking countries like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, New Zealand, and the United States.

2005 was the year Alexa Rank, and everything offered by Alexa received a negative reputation.

A search marketer who participated in a 2005 forum discussion commented:

“Isn’t it time that Amazon throws in the towel with Alexa?” Alexa is a disgrace to a company that does so many things well. What good is it to be associated with such rubbish?

Increase the quality of your content with keyword intent analysis

Semrush’s keyword-intent metric makes it easier than ever to align your keywords with the correct audience and create the right content.

Nevertheless, a declining number of search marketers still used the Alexa Rank metric.

For instance, companies offer affiliate programs and use Alexa Rank to determine the popularity and acceptance of potential partners.

Alexa Was Over And Above A Site Popularity Ranking Metric

It may surprise many people that Alexa provides a complete search marketing and analytics suite.

Alexa’s suite of online marketing tools, including a backlink checking tool, was almost kept secret. There was no outreach to the search engine marketing community and no promotion.

Alexa crawled through the Internet and provided Archive.org snapshots of the Internet for many years. Its backlink information was extensive.

This allowed it to offer services such a showing the backlinks commonality of competitors, up to ten at a given time.

Alexa.com has retired

Alexa said that everything would be gone by May 1, 2022.

The announcement was very brief and did not explain the circumstances that led to this decision.

Alexa Internet was established twenty-five years ago. After twenty-five years of helping you reach and convert your digital audience through search, outreach, and conversion, we have made the hard decision to retire Alexa.com effective May 1, 2022.

We appreciate you making us your first-choice resource for content and competitive analysis, keyword research, and other services.

Alexa provided a robust set of SEO and marketing tools, and it is sad to see them go.

Many people didn’t know of the tools. It might still exist if it was promoted better.
