Managing SEO for Non-SEOs 3 Simple Tips

Learn to establish the goals for SEO, identify the areas of your SEO that need to be covered and hold productive SEO team meeting.

This article is written for CMOs, marketing managers, and other executives who are planning the following year’s marketing strategy.

We will provide a bird’s-eye view of managing SEO to assist you in making the right decisions that will result in more organic traffic and organic revenues in 2020.

It is also true when you manage an internal SEO group or work for an outside SEO agency.

We will be covering the following:

  • The process of setting SEO goals and goals.
  • Find the holes within your search engine optimization.
  • Meaningful SEO team meetings.

1. Prioritizing SEO by using OKRs

We’ll want to set specific goals and objectives to guide our search engine optimization campaign.

The truth that lies behind SEO is the fact of every successful venture will require organized, constant, consistent, and adequate efforts to be able to rank effectively.

This is the reason I enjoy working with OKRs that stand as Objectives and Key Results.

It’s a management system utilized by numerous tech giants, such as Google.

They carry out SEO efforts specifically targeting specific goals we’d like to accomplish.

The purpose is the goal of our SEO actions. It’s aligned with the overall goal, vision, and mission.

An objective could be more imaginative, inspiring and engaging than a traditional measured (SMART) target.

We typically set quarterly goals for our customers. Setting objectives is a deliberate process where we dialogue with our client, the team, or other critical stakeholders to establish the goal.

A few examples include:

  • Inform the company’s data-driven Content strategy.
  • Two backlink campaigns should be run (English, German) to improve authority on Google.
  • A guideline for German SEO to test markets outside of English to generate leads.
  • Create a solid base to ensure SEO success by enhancing your website structure.

They are aligned with larger business goals like:

  • Increase online exposure and pertinent organic traffic.
  • A rapid increase in overall revenue, particularly with organic traffic leads.
  • The lead generation has increased up to 20 leads qualified each week.

The key results make the target concrete and quantifiable. The goal is reached when all the key outcomes are attained.

Key results may appear like this:

  • Expand organic visitors by an amount of X% to 1,000 users per month.
  • Increase rankings for specific target keywords to an X.
  • Improve the organic visibility of target keywords by X.
  • Create X high-quality backlinks that are related to the topic through guest posts.
  • Repair all of the X technical problems outlined within the audit report.
  • Create X number of SEO-driven content pieces each month.
  • Enhance unique, duplicate, and standard content metrics to X, Y, and Z levels.
  • Increase the page speed from X to Y seconds for desktop and mobile.

There are even additional examples of marketing OKR on this page.

OKRs give a clear idea of where we’d like to travel.

They can be documented using a straightforward spreadsheet that can be used to simplify your SEO tasks.

The critical results beyond revenue and leads are crucial for SEO and content marketing, as our efforts will experience an in-between time.

Your efforts today will be successful within a couple of months or weeks when your keywords are at the top of the list.

The top three rankings generate the majority of organic traffic. You need to reach these rankings to ensure success is achievable.

Although the organic flow of traffic, conversion, and revenue are ultimately the things we want, we must measure and assess progress to determine whether we’re moving in the correct direction and whether our efforts align with our objectives.

This is why you may consider enhancing your primary outcomes with SEO health metrics like growth in backlinks, referring domains to the domain’s authority/rating, and page speed, as described in the previous paragraph.

I am a great advocate of reviews of effectiveness (even more than efficiency).

The most crucial concern is:

Are our efforts having any impact? Are we generating output?

In this instance, the output is the process of improving primary outcomes.

2. Find the gaps in your SEO

If you need help identifying your most important outcomes and what to focus on (content and links, technical), Here are some suggestions to consider.

It must meet three primary factors if you are looking to rank well and boost organic traffic to your site. They include:

  • Technical infrastructure To permit Google to search and comprehend your site.
  • Relevance of Content: To be found by your targeted keywords.
  • Authority by way of backlinks To boost ranking to high spots.

The initial step in implementing the success of an SEO strategy is to understand the areas where your most significant barriers and opportunities lie.

  • Does your website load slowly and must be optimized to increase speed on the web?
  • Did you produce relevant content that meets the requirements of the
  • Are niche-relevant websites connecting to you?

The most important thing to know is:

There’s no need to exploit your preferred ranking factor excessively.

Specific marketing and SEO experts swear by hyperlinks, while others claim they are influenced by content.

Do not be fooled by your indulgence in SEO theories or online debates about who is right.

The truth about SEO is that you’ll have to optimize for the three SEO components for success.

Try to figure out what the gaps are, and then work to improve the ranking factors you’re lacking and enhance the things you excel at.

What did you focus on this year? What factors could have been overlooked? What factors were responsible for the most significant amount of success?

If you’re looking to learn more about the factors that determine rank, Here are some excellent research studies:

  • Study for 2019 from Authority Hacker
  • Survey for 2016 conducted by Brian Dean

In general:

  • Many large, outdated websites with thousands of pages may want to focus on SEO for technical reasons, indexing, crawl budgets, and backlinks.
  • Websites just starting out may be interested in keywords-driven content creation, website structure, and backlink creation.

Knowing these components is the initial step to creating a comprehensive SEO strategy. The actual results should be a reflection of the three elements.

3. Relevant SEO Team Meetings

If you are the manager of an internal team or an agency, here’s an idea for a framework for meetings based on the tenets in the book “Traction as well as the EOS” (entrepreneurial operating system).

This framework for meetings helps transform your OKRs into concrete actions for each week.

Successful meeting 101 Same days, same time, and the schedule starts on time and finishes on time.

The agenda for a meeting can be as follows:

  1. Get started on time and with positive news
  2. Reporting on the company’s OKRs
  3. The reporting of SEO OKRs and other SEO OKRs, such as:

·         The initiatives and accomplishments of last week

·         Review of the key results

·         This week’s goals and projects

·         Looking ahead to the coming four weeks

4. Discussion on issues that were reported in reports, including:

·         Prioritizing the issues

·         Find the issue

·         Discussion on the issue

·         Find a solution (and develop a plan or task)

Conclusion, including:

·         A recap of the actions or tasks

·         Rate meeting

The use of OKRs, as well as a clearly defined plan for meetings, can help in turning SEO into an achievable and manageable task that is focused on specific goals. This helps make SEO less confusing and unclear and dramatically increases your odds of success.

I suggest the following:

  • Set an inspirational goal each quarter
  • This goal should be quantifiable by defining the key outcomes
  • You must include all three elements of SEO, not just the ones you like.
  • Include health indicators that allow you to measure your progress

Begin a streamlined SEO meeting to keep track of developments and the issue

Happy scoring!
